About Marietta, Georgia
Marietta was incorporated in 1834, 13 years before Atlanta. In 1864, a large portion was ordered burned by General William Tecumsah Sherman, as he and his army roared through on “Sherman’s March to the Sea”. Downtown Marietta was destroyed, but 400 buildings, including 5 churches, were permitted to remain.

Steeped in history, yet socially progressive, Marietta is also a city of employment opportunity, with the Lockheed Martin aeronautics manufacturing plant and Dobbins Air Reserve Base employing a large number of Marietta residents.
